Can IB and A Level students attend group tuition together?
"A few of my new IB economics tuition students shared with me their unpleasant experiences. Apparently, a number of tuition centres group A Level and IB Economics students together. Many parents do not know that this is a very damaging strategy for their children. There are significant differences in the 2 syllabus- be it content or assessment mode.
The students will end up utterly confused and ill-prepared for their own syllabus. When such students come to me, I often end up having to do a lot of damage control because of wrong economics frameworks learnt and poor acquisition of skills. Do select an appropriate tuition teacher/centre with experience teaching the syllabus that your child is taking. You should always question the tutor and ensure that he/she can tell you more about his/her experience in teaching the syllabus. The tutor must be competent in preparing resources well aligned to the syllabus. Do not choose an economics tutor just because he/she has an economics degree. To help the students excel, the tutor must know the correct answering techniques and assessment rubrics required by the exam board. The IB students in 2022 are the first November batch to take the new IB syllabus and JC1 students in 2022 will be the first batch to take the new A Level syllabus in 2023. I hope this information will help parents make informed decisions! "
